Song #6 Right Here With You

We skip ahead again, this time a few years have gone by. Kyle's success has continued to grow and he now enjoys a high profile in the literary world, even if a large part of what he writes seems to come from a very dark, yet somehow hysterical, place deep inside himself. Monica's career has also progressed, although not as all encompassing as Kyle's climb to literary fame. With a couple of songs that sold fairly well by two different well known artists, she has left the jingle world behind and now circulates in the California music scene. They both work for their own respective publishing companies. Their son Willy is elementary school age.

This scene takes place inside the house on the main level with the piano. Kyle and Monica are sitting in the living room area discussing their respective plans for the day. Willy has already left for school so they both have until mid afternoon until he gets home. (By my calculations we haven't laid eyes on Willy yet. I think we'll wait until he's a teenager before we actually meet him...more on that later)

Kyle tells her his research team is a little behind, and he points out that it's not always easy to research the origins and goings on of the otherworld. He's in the middle of his next novel and it's becoming clear that he's not going to make his publisher's deadline. So he moans and groans a bit about how instead of doing what he loves to do, that is writing, he's going to have to spend some time on the phone...first with a couple of his researchers and then most importantly with his publisher. Although they're good friends and get along fine, they're no strangers to professional disagreements. No telling how that'll go, he says...he just wants to get back to his book.

Monica talks about how a certain well known artist is looking for a love song and she's been throwing some ideas around and wants to spend the day at the piano working on it.

So Kyle heads upstairs to his office and Monica sits down at the piano. She starts doodling, recollecting a few sparse ideas she had in her head...and as writing tends to do, her ideas start morphing and solidifying. Still sitting at the piano, she starts to sing...

Lyrics

He's always saying it'll be alright

And I believe him when he holds me tight

When we're together it all just keeps getting better all the time

He's got a smile that makes me want to sing

He tells that I'm his everything

I gotta tell you he's just what a girl wants to see in her dreams

It keeps getting better

It keeps getting better, yes it's true

It keeps getting better

Right here with you

Thinking back I think he might've been shy

What a laugh, I'll never know why

'Cause he was probably one of those guys

That I never thought would be mine

I haven't ever really told him why

I kinda giggled when I passed him by

Who would of thought that we would ever try it together

But time goes by

And it keeps getting better

It keeps getting better, yes it's true

It keeps getting better

Right here with you

(At this point Monica's idea runs dry...she needs another verse. As she ponders out loud for ideas she starts overhearing Kyle's voice getting increasingly louder. He's talking to his publisher and it doesn't sound like it's going too well. By this time she's gotten up from the piano and is standing at the foot of the stairs when the idea hits her and she turns and sings the last verse directly to the audience...)

So did I mention that he's crazy too

Cracks me up with all the things he'll do

Did you just hear him tell his boss what to do with his schedule

And his rules

But it keeps getting better

It keeps getting better, yes it's true

It keeps getting better all the time

It keeps getting better

Right here with you

(As soon as the song ends Kyle comes down the stairs on his way to the unseen kitchen. On his way by, grumbling under his breath, still calming down from his phone conversation, he stops and asks Monica, "How's that song coming?" Monica's replies, "It still needs a lot of work")
